Hearken is an audience-driven platform enabling journalists to partner with the public throughout the reporting process, resulting in relevant and high performing content.
This is not User-Generated Content; it’s not Crowdsourcing in the traditional sense. Hearken is Public-Powered Journalism. We help media outlets partner with and gain insight from audiences during reporting — from story genesis to completion.
There are two sets of customers: 1) newsrooms and 2) the audiences they serve. The primary focus of Curious Nation is to enable newsrooms to employ this tested and proven model efficiently and successfully no matter their organization’s size or structure so they may be more responsive and relevant to current and new audiences.
The concept and tech has been road-tested and highly successful at WBEZ – Chicago Public Media since June 2012. Seven other public media stations are experimenting with the model and have found similar success. Dozens more are interested in taking it on. The current software requires creating a service layer and additional features to scale it quickly to other organizations. See it in action at http://curiouscity.wbez.org/
